Hey all you Pro's! I was out playing the other day at Ken caryl and lo and behold if some of the new players to the sport wern't throwing at us before we even finished the hole. This is becuse in my opinion they have not yet been given the correct edicate rules. Can one of you very wise pro's do a story or report up on the home page defining all the rules for all to read? I think it would go a long way to help new players get the feel for the sport. It would also help keep mishaps from happining. Wink

That is why I quit playing KC. I almost got into it with a young punk for almost hitting Gunnar!! I could have snapped him like a twig. Sucks because that course is G-man's favorite and its only 5 minutes from my house. Now I just take him to Shaffer or we play Blue Heron.

High school punks!!!!! Love them, but hate them sometimes as well.

C U Later,
Koz

I don't think new players are reading this site and those of us that do already know disc golf rules and edicate. I'ts up to other players (us) to teach those that are new to the game. Whether it's a family, kids, or 'punks'. Kindly tell them the rules. A group of us the other day had to tell some kids to wait until we were done with the hole, even though they couldn't throw anywhere near us from the tee, but they were throwing their 3 or 4 shots and started before we even got to the first drive so by the time we were putting out they were approaching us. They didn't seem to mind but still threw, just waited to start when we started putting.
The use of a sign or kiosk near the first tee would be helpful. I read the one at the course where I learned (it was also so crowded that there were plenty of people to tell you to wait).
peace,
-mikew

Mike, I think that that is exactly what we need to do. There's really no way that beginers will know what the rules are unless someone informs them. I think that some rules at Hole 1 is a great Idea. We could allways just throw the discs back at them. Just Kidding, But sometimes I do get really pissed and just yell at them when I should just let them know that it is rude, and dangerous not to wait. I knew I'd find a post about it here.-

I'd say your addicted to something when you start posting on forums about it.

I'm on vacation now and finally have time to go through these forums.

I love the idea of having a general rules & etiquite board at every course. I'm going to bring this up at the CDSA Board meeting and see what we come up with. I think as the State organization, we should be the ones to provide something like that. What a wonderful idea! Wish I had seen this earlier, but hoepefully it will be implemented in the near future.

Keep the idea's flowing!

Read your rule book Smile
Here are the basics for casual play:

-Don't throw on the group in front of you, wait until they are off the hole. If the hole is 600+ feet, once they are 500 feet or so down, feel free to throw (only if there are tons of people on the course and you need to keep it flowing)
That's about it for casual play because if no one else is on your hole, and you play fairly quickly, you have every right to use the whole fairway as the next group.

For tournaments:

-Wait for the group to be off the hole unless again it's a really long hole, and they are at least 500+ feet off the tee-box. That's called speed of play so you don't cause a backup.
-Adhere to the rule that you get 30 seconds per shot post distractions. This will also keep up with speed of play and not cause backups.
-Don't foot fault, people will call you on it. If you draw an imaginary line directly through the center of your mini or disc to the pole, your foot must be on that imaginary line behind your mini or disc, within 10 inches of the back of your marker. Anything to the side of that imaginary line and you foot fault. (different circumstances with Mando's but we can get into that later if need be.)
-If you have a given teebox (cement pad), you can not have any part of your plant foot hang off the edge of the teebox, foot fault
-Don't yell when people are throwing, they'll get pissed at you.
-Trying to be out of the active player's line of sight if possible. If you are in their line of sight, try not to move.
-Don't do anything to another player that you wouldn't want them doing to you
-If you're stuck in a bush, you have to try to establish a stance that requires the least amount of interference with the bush. I.e. you cannot back into a bush so it's clear in front of you. You'd have to get a leg in there from the side so that the bush moves as little as possible. In the same vain, you cannot hold a branch to the side with one hand while throwing with the other.

These are the basics. There are much finer rules out there, so read the rule book and you wont have any problems.
